New Year's Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31. Florida law allows consumer fireworks Dec. 31 and Jan. 1; what is open, closed and planned in Davie.

New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and New Year’s Day is Friday, Jan. 1, 2027. Davie has no town fireworks show on New Year’s Eve; its big drone-and-fireworks night is the Fourth of July. Most of the noise comes from back yards, which Florida law allows on these two days. The town has not posted its 2026 holiday hours yet, so last year’s are below as a guide.

What this means for you

  • Fireworks: legal for personal use on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 under state law, unless your HOA’s recorded covenants ban them.
  • Illegal fireworks complaints: the town ran a hotline, 954-693-8119, last season. Emergencies: 911.
  • Schools: closed through Jan. 1; Monday, Jan. 4, is a teacher planning day and classes resume Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Fireworks: what the law says

Florida’s fireworks law, section 791.08, names three “designated holidays” when fireworks may be used: New Year’s Day, Jan. 1; Independence Day, July 4; and New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31. It does not override a properly recorded homeowners’ association covenant that prohibits fireworks, though an HOA board cannot make a new rule to take the right away.

Between Dec. 28, 2024, and 7 a.m. Jan. 2, 2025, the Davie Police Department and the town’s Code Compliance Division ran a special line for fireworks complaints, 954-693-8119, and said it was not a replacement for 911 (town notice). We will post the 2026 hotline when the town announces it.

Trash pickup

The town’s 2026 Solid Waste Service Guide names Thanksgiving and Christmas Day as the holidays with no pickup; New Year’s Day is not on that list. If that changes, the town posts it on its news page. Details: trash and recycling in Davie.
