Davie residents can shred up to five boxes of papers and drop off old medicine free 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at Pine Island Park. What to bring and what is refused.

The Town of Davie will shred residents’ old papers and take back unwanted medicine for free on Saturday, Oct. 17. It is the last of the town’s three shred days this year.

The drive-thru event runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pine Island Park, the Bamford Sports Complex, at 3801 S. Pine Island Road. It ends early if the disposal trucks fill up, the town said in its Oct. 7 announcement.

How to get in

Drop-off traffic must use the Southwest 36th Street entrance. The South Pine Island Road entrance stays open for people visiting the park.

You stay in your car. Town staff unload it for you. The town asks you to:

  • put the papers in the trunk or cargo area
  • leave the trunk unlocked, or be able to open it from inside
  • take out anything you do not want thrown away

What to bring

The event is for Davie residents only. Bring a photo ID and a document showing your Davie address. The town lists a tax bill, a TRIM notice, a voter registration card or a utility bill as examples.

Businesses cannot use the event to shred documents. Nursing homes, doctor’s offices and other health care facilities cannot use it to dispose of drugs.

What they will shred

Each vehicle can bring up to five standard boxes, about 15 by 12 by 10 inches. The town’s examples of papers to shred are:

  • pay stubs
  • canceled checks
  • financial and credit card statements
  • bills
  • old tax returns
  • anything with a Social Security number

Leave binders, metal hanging folders and binder clips at home. The shredder will not take them.

What medicine they will take

The town will accept:

  • prescription medicines and samples
  • over-the-counter medicines
  • vitamins
  • pet medicines

It will not take thermometers, needles or syringes, inhalers, EpiPens, IV bags, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, or bloody or infectious waste.

What it means for you

This is the simplest free way in town to get rid of a box of old statements or a cabinet of expired pills. Earlier events this year were on Feb. 7 and June 13, according to the town’s Shred-A-Thon page, and no further 2026 date is listed after Oct. 17.

Questions go to the town’s waste and recycling staff through davie-fl.gov/wasteandrecycling. For regular pickup days and bulk trash, see our Davie trash and recycling guide.
