Electricity in Davie comes from Florida Power & Light (FPL), the town’s utility phone list shows. Outages, downed lines and power restoration all go to FPL, not the town.

When the power goes out

- Watch the map: fplmaps.com shows outages across FPL’s territory.
Downed lines and storm safety
From Broward County’s hurricane guide:
- Treat every downed power line as if it is live. If a line is sparking or arcing, call 911.
- Walk carefully and stay out of standing water, which can hide downed lines.
- Do not go out after dark, when you may not see a line that is still energized.
- Do not drive unless it is an emergency; traffic lights may be out.
- Do not trim trees or plants growing on or near power lines yourself; only trained professionals should work near them. FPL’s tree guidelines are at FPL.com/Reliability.
Before a storm
- Sign up for town alerts through Notify Me and download the FPL app.
- Portable generators of 10,000 running watts or less are exempt from Florida sales tax all year. See our hurricane prep guide.
- Keep a battery-powered radio and flashlight with extra batteries.
- If someone in your home depends on electric medical equipment, plan for an outage and consider the county’s special needs shelter registry.
Water and sewer during an outage
Water and sewer are not FPL’s. Many Davie homes get them from the Town of Davie’s own utility, but the town’s utility phone list shows that some parts of town are served by neighboring cities. If the water pressure drops or a sewer lift station alarms during a long outage, call the utility named on your bill:
| Utility | Phone |
|---|---|
| Town of Davie Utilities (new service, billing) | 954-797-1065 |
| City of Sunrise | 954-746-3232 |
| City of Hollywood | 954-921-3938 |
| City of Plantation | 954-327-3742 |
Boil water notices, if any are issued, come from the utility that serves you. The town posts its own on its news page.
Running a generator safely
From the federal government’s Ready.gov power outage guide:
- Use a generator only outdoors, and keep it and its fuel at least 20 feet from windows, doors and attached garages.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors with battery backup in central locations on every level of your home. Carbon monoxide has no smell.
- Keep the generator dry and protected from rain or flooding; touching a wet generator or anything plugged into it can cause a shock.
Complaints about service
If you cannot resolve a problem with FPL, the Florida Public Service Commission, which regulates investor-owned utilities, takes utility complaints online.
Starting or moving service
New residents start electric service with FPL; see our moving to Davie guide for links to the power, water and gas start-service pages.
